HSO Running Knaresborough Bed Race to support Shine 21
June 1, 2025
For the fifth year, HSO is entering a team in the Great Knaresborough Bed Race. This extraordinary event is part fancy dress pageant and part gruelling time trial over a 2.4 mile course, which culminates with a swim across River Nidd.
The team is raising funds for the HSO charity of the year, Shine 21.
On Saturday 14th June, the team of six will push our bed (and passenger) across grass, tarmac and cobbles, up a very steep hill and back down the High Street before tackling the swim across the Nidd. Runners this year come from across the orchestra, with instruments including violin, viola, cello, clarinet, French horn and trombone.
Before any running can happen, the bed must be decorated for the Parade, in line with the theme for 2025, which is ‘Adverts’. So keep your eyes peeled for the Good Ship Birds Eye – along with Cap’n and several fish fingers!
We’re not expecting to set any records this year, but we will have a lot of fun, and hopefully raise plenty for Shine 21 – a North Yorkshire charity that is dedicated to the lives of children with Down Syndrome. If you’d like to donate, please visit https://www.justgiving.com/page/hsobedrace2025
