Harrogate Symphony Orchestra is an amateur orchestra based in and around the area of Harrogate in North Yorkshire.
Harrogate became popular as an elegant Victorian spa town, noted for its charming friendly atmosphere, well-preserved architecture and glorious public gardens. The famous two-hundred acre Stray is an area of green parkland surrounding the town centre and is especially beautiful in spring when drifts of thousands of crocuses and daffodils are in bloom.
The Royal Pump House was built in 1842 to enclose the Old Sulphur Well, and today the Royal Pump Room Museum tells the story of Harrogate's history as England's only truly European spa. Located over the famous sulphur wells, displays show why visitors came to take the cure and enjoy the culture. Harrogate is also home to 'Bettys Tea Rooms', a world-famous establishment, serving traditional English tea fare, with a pianist who performs every evening between 18.00 - 21.00!
Although Harrogate still has its Spa town charm, it is now better known as an Exhibition and Conference centre town with the Harrogate International Centre being one of the world's top venues for conferences, exhibitions, banquets and entertainments.
