ABOUT HARROGATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Harrogate Symphony Orchestra can trace its roots back to 1931 and is one of the UK’s leading amateur orchestras. We rehearse and perform a wide range of music to large audiences and to a high standard. Our regular concerts feature both established favourites and some lesser-known works, and we have been joined by several star soloists over the years.
We were delighted to be able to perform a full programme of concerts in 2022, including a wonderful summer ‘Around the World’ themed event and a memorable ‘Family Fun Time’ concert – in which we were proud to showcase some great classical music to a younger audience.
2023 saw another programme of fine concerts, featuring talented soloists and a wide range of works – some well known and some which will have been a fresh discovery for some.
Please read on for more information about our programme for 2024 and beyond.

Join Us
At HSO we’re always ready to welcome enthusiastic amateur players to join our ranks. Whilst we perform to a high standard, we don’t have formal auditions and your love of music is more important than raw talent. Our rehearsals take place in Knaresborough on Thursday evenings. If you’re looking for a friendly place to make music, please get in touch.
Support Us
We’re just as delighted to have non-players join the HSO family and you can do this in two ways. Firstly, please check out our concert diary and come along as often as you can. Even better, join the thriving Friends of HSO. Our Friends receive a range of benefits and have the pleasure of knowing they are helping to support live music in our community.

Even so, we thought you might like to know a bit more about some of the key individuals at Harrogate Symphony Orchestra. These include our long-standing, inspirational conductor and musical director, Bryan Western and several others.
